yelp is like the mafia

I wish I could give zero stars, I've worked as a consultant with a couple of businesses that have been sabotaged by yelp because they didn't purchase their advertising packages. The companies both gave in to some degree and purchased advertising features like the "$30 for $50 deals," but the good reviews were still filtered and nothing really changed. I've also had a company of my own that was a delivery business, and after 2 reviews that were both five stars, they contacted me trying to get me to advertise through them. Since it was a small gig there was no way I could pay 5k to advertise... less than 12 hours later, the reviews were filtered. Yelp sucks, I know they've been taken to court before and they won, but there must be a way to block them from even listing YOUR business... shouldn't they need some sort of consent at least??

I give a ZERO star if I could! Yelp allows people who admit they have never been to a business to give a bad review. When as the owner you complain, they say it will help if you give them $300 monthly to advertise, and they HIDE all your positive reviews. This is BLACKMAIL, Yelp should be removed from the Internet. They only make money when you advertise! Most smaller business can't afford $300 a month!

After receiving calls from their sales department, I told them I would advertise on their site AFTER they took off all of the 1 star reviews that were incurred by the previous 2 business owners. I asked why they don't have posted the (at least ) half dozen 5 star reviews I know customers have posted and I was told it was their algorhythm. I told them it was BS that they bury all the good reviews, post high 5 year old reviews from 2 owners ago, and post high ex employee rants. "Sorry", was all I got. A month later and they have not called me back to advertise and the crappy reviews are still posted. I guess they know to give up on me.

YELP is a joke. ZERO stars for this scamming company. Never Google their site or review on their site and they will be destroyed. Today, you need to boycott them to make them fail. They extort businesses. Let's all crush them together. Dont email or spam me yo and thanks.

Yelp not only allows people who have never been a customer to post reviews, but hides good reviews and then solicits you for money to "improve" the visibility of your good reviews.

Well, here's my rant. Owning a business is hard and watching a business being reviewed negatively by a fraudulent account is disheartening. I hope many others win lawsuits against Yelp! Love that this site exists!

Yelp says they don't allow proper full names of employees and staff in reviews, yet when it happens and it's pointed out to them, they do absolutely nothing. Yelp allows people to post whatever they want anonymously, yet the business owner has to show a picture of their own face in order to reply to a review or make a comment of their own. I hope they go out of business, I really do.

Running a business is hard enough without having to deal with the psycho's at Yelp. We have 18 yelp 5 star reviews filtered by Yelp. They call me and email me constantly about paying to advertise them. There seems to be some type of correlation with how often I say no, to how often my reviews get filtered. Of course, the 1 star reviews never get filtered even though one of them isn't even a customer. Yelp is biting the hands that feed them and karma will catch up to them.

No stars for YELP

I am not sure I can say anything else bad that hasn't already been said by the 1000's of unhappy business owners that Yelp has screwed over. YELP just plain a** sucks. I HATE YELP! Yelp destroys small businesses with their shady , business practices. They are the definition of un·scru·pu·lous ˌənˈskro͞opyələs/ adjective having or showing no moral principles; not honest or fair. synonyms: unprincipled, unethical, immoral, conscienceless, shameless, reprobate, exploitative, corrupt, dishonest, dishonorable, deceitful, devious, underhanded, unsavory, disreputable, evil, wicked, villainous, Machiavellian; More

NEGATIVE STARS

Wish there were negative reviews bc yelp doesnt even deserve one star. Im not even a business owner and have realized how effed up this page is. Bunch of college kids taking pride in their elite status should be ashamed of themselves and go get a life. Ive been screwed by reading their nonsense "recommended" reviews. I go straight for "not recommended" reviews now because they're the most legit. Ppl are stupid to think this company is out there helping them leave honest reviews..NO RETARDS they're out there trying to make money and abuse your reviews for their own purpose.

Oh, uh-uh. Heyll nah!

Went to Yelp headquarters and totally got a bad vibe, not to mention, the stink eye from the receptionist. Asked for a tour and the receptionist said, "Oh, uh-uh. Heyll nah!" Went to use restroom and it was totally grody to the maximum power. One of the workers also walked by and was like, "Eww. As if." Never will I step place in there again. This is a totally legit review. (I didn't just check in from a surrounding area, I swear) Hey, I'll tell you what, if you pay me money, I will delete this review and put the good ones on top. Wink, wink.

The worst element on the Internet

I used to think that sites with instructions on how to use fertilizer and household goods to make explosives were the worst thing on the web....until Yelp came along. The damage from every homemade bomb put together doesn't compare to the very real damage that false, malicious, and misleading bogus complaints do to American businesses. It is sanctioned libel and slander and recklessness on a scale that would likely result in a beheading 200 years ago in almost any society.

We are professional medical dental offices that being destroyed by Yelp, they asked us to pay money to keep up good reviews and ever since we discontinued paying them the due, the left only one star reviews online. We don't trust yelp anymore....Please don't pay them any money.

Lets crowd source a flash mob to burn down the building while they have an all hands meeting. I would love nothing more than to erase this terrible blight against humanity before more people think entities like yelp are normal and good.

Our business is in home improvement, its stated right on the yelp website that they are geared to the restaurant business and people who dine out frequently. I get one sour grape and all my good reviews are now not recommended after a sales call offering ad placement. News flash most homes have one water heater and two or three bathrooms and one kitchen. Average Home owners age 40, how many times can you remodel a home or replace a water heater? Most of my costumers don't go out clubbing and most cook at home.

Wish I could give it no stars yelp wants your money or they will destroy your business by only showing your bad reviews and filter out your good ones I was a paying customer when I saw it was a waste of money I canced it now they show one bad review for a lady that was made we would not take a personal check and the 25 good reviews are blocked so potential customers searching see us with one star and most likely move to the paying competition good for yelp bad for small businesses

Rip off

Yelp is nothing but lies and a rip off. I'll go out on a limb and say that the people who use yelp are people who Like to give negative reviews. Just for laughs.

Yelp is the worst business ever!

Can't I give Yelp less than 1 star? I'd like to give them what they deserve, but that wouldn't be much. First, your business gets listed with or without your permission and you can't take it down. People are allowed to "review" your business - whether or not they have actually been there or are disgruntled employees or competitors. People are allowed to do this anonymously, so Yelp says there is no proof they did not actually visit your establishment. Yelp hides or removes your good reviews, and allows the bad ones even when you can prove they are bogus. They tell you that if you advertise with them, they can help remove these bad reviews. They place your competitors' ads on top of your own ad and say that if you pay for advertising, these will come down. When you advertise with them, you will get no results or phone calls whatsoever, and when you point out that your good reviews from clients are disappearing, they will tell you, "Well, your ratings are still pretty good even so". And when you call with problems, no one at Yelp will take your calls. Probably the worst thing is that non-business owners think that Yelp is unbiased - since that is what they continue to tell people. So people are making decisions every day to patronize or avoid a business - not knowing that Yelp is controlling all of this by whatever bizarre "filtering" methods they have that they cannot even explain. This is hurting businesses, when they get bad reviews that are not true and people will not shop with them. Yelp needs to be stopped, and the public needs to know what Yelp is really all about.

Yelp removes positive reviews

I used to manage a gym and I discovered the embrassing behavior that Yelp executed. It used to remove legitimate positive reviews of out members! These were not paid reviews, these were genuine members of the gym who wrote reviews! When I tried to contact Yelp asking for explanation and proviso g proof that these are real members, I was told that reviews removed because these users were new to Yelp! What kind of reasoning is that?? And to make it worse, when a new user left a bad review, Yelp did not remove it!!! This shows how dishonest and unfair this business is. If you don't pay for their advertising they use unfair business practice to hurt you. Do not pay for such dishonest business! If you had bad experience with them, please review as well to raise awareness. Yelp should be CLOSED for unfair practice

Yelp Destroys small businesses

They claim to take away the bad reviews if you pay them $350 up to $$$$ with a contract for several YEARS. Real reviews from real customers say their reviews are hidden. But the fake 1 star review from someone who even stated in the review they never stepped into my shop has been there for years. I saw my competitor on my block get a 1 star horrible review for not allowing a yelper park in their tiny Lot so he could go to the gym across the street. This was NOT a customer. How is this fair??? So this business will be punished for not allowing someone who is not a customer to park in his private lot. This is my competitor and even I am pissed about this. Fair is fair. Yelp is destroying small business.

Review for Yelp

★☆☆☆☆

I've been with yelp for over 5 years. When I started is never paid yelp. I received a few bad reviews from Elite members which seemed like an inside job. I now have a total of 95 reviews and out of those 95 reviews Yelp has hidden 28. They show all the bad pictures and negative reviews first when someone searches my page so I was forced to give Yelp $75 per month just do I can control in what order people see my pictures. I received one review from a client that I never serviced. I tried to close my account and the only way to close it is if I close my business and Yelp said they have to send a mediator to make sure I'm closed down. Now I pay Yelp $300 per month to better protect my reputation. But they still expose my personal information and personal emails wicked clients decided to post to make me look bad.

I know that is not the filter

Our company had more than 24 positive reviews one day we received a call from a Yelp representative I refuse the generous offer to pay $500 per month for a marketing campaign which has zero success the next day all our positive reviews were gone what a coincidence some of these reviews have been on there for 2 years not filtered all our reviews are from real customers and can be very veryfied Yelp was so generous and left one positive review on our page after one customer we had problems with because he didn't pay his bill posted an insulting and beyond the freedom of speech review we reported that review sb on the freedom of speech because it titles the owner personally a liar after we reported that negative review the one five star review which was left was also taken down as against Yelp regulations all this review stated that we are very good company in a one liner this review was 2 years and 8 month old since that time we have one star review on Yelp and all our positive reviews are under the filter section I took a screenshot on the day that yelp rep called me and a screenshot one day after the Yelp rep called me were all the reviews were gone they yell prep also called us on our 1-800 number which is time stamped and recorded I cannot understand why this company has not been found guilty for extortion and a racket at this time and point the facts are clearly pointing in this direction and many many businesses have been harmed the same way freedom of speech is one thing but destroying somebody's reputation willingly is a crime finally a documentary is in the making about yelps wrongdoing all I have to say this is not an automatic filtering system which takes those reviews down what a coincidence in so many cases I hope this website will find a lot of people to tell the truth about Yelp and their behavior

I think yelp is a total joke. Opinions are like assholes and so is the entire staff at yelp. I am officially on the do not contact list. I even stated that I will obtain a cease and desist letter, have it served to them. If from that point their contact would be construed as harrassment. My negative reviews,2, can be tracked back to a competing business. The joke is I have the best yelp page in my community. According to them I am the highest rated business in 40 miles. I laughed at the rep and said, 'well that success was not achieved with anything your company has done for me. I irritated the salesman, by asking him loaded questions. For example they get angry when they hear this as a rebuttal: Why would I advertise with someone that permits someone that cannot provide proof of purchase to state their opinion under a fake name? I pointed out flaws in their algorithm, if truly the filtering process removes reciews that are fake, how is it that the phoney reviews I have written still exist on my page? I questioned the right to use my intellectual property to make money through advertising. I then pointed out that incorporated businesses are considered people by the eyes of the law. Without proof of purchase the yelper is not protected by the freedom of speech yelp seems to cling to. Free speech does not include defamation and slander!! Without proof of purchase to support the review, the freedom of speech defense is useless!! Fuck yelp, fuck them all in their stupid asses, bunch of keyboad bullies.

I've been in business for 45 years. Always done business the way my father and grandfather did, one to one building relationships and friends for life. Then comes Yelp! Never witnessed anything like this. Some psycho (known) steroid rage guy left a hate filled review calling my company and employees "vermin" among other things and that we should all be "exterminated", etc. He had no other reviews and only one friend so his review was "algorithmed" down based on the worthlessness of the comment (I was actually ok with that). Next day I get a sales call from Yelp. I say no thanks to $300/mo because after 16 years at the same location I have no need for advertising of any kind. Then the following day the shit one star review moves to the top of my page and several long standing 5 star reviews go down. And this one star review stays at the top for over a year as other positive reviews come in below it. Meanwhile, I get an onslaught of phone calls from the most aggressive sales people imaginable. I tell these sales jerks, "why in the hell would ANYONE want to pay good money to have Yelp direct traffic to extreme hate filled review." What kind of logic is that? I even wrote a letter to Stoppelman. Of course, no response. Not even a form letter. No one answers the phone, no customer service, no appeals, they robot decline everything you request. You can't even opt out of their silly service in an effort to get some relief from the constant harassment. This company, Yelp, needs to go broke. If for no other reason than to teach the world that anonymous cyber-bullying and extortion as company policy is not acceptable anywhere anytime.

Yelp is horrible for businesses when they call you and ask you if you want to advertise the cost is $300 a month as a small business that's almost impossible to afford. Once you have told them that you do not want to or cannot afford to bathe them have their employees right negative reviews about your company making it hard for your business to get new customers. This is extortion

yelp extorts

Is it a coincidence that when you tell them you do not want to advertise .. all of a sudden you get more bad reviews??( If you do advertise.. good ones start popping up).. Coincidence?? I don't think so. I refuse to even talk to their reps when they call.
